Ever since our phone chat over a year before, I’d been looking forward to Rachel and Giles’ wedding. We just got on SO well – I loved them and could have chatted all day. By the night of the wedding we were already making plans to hang out again. In fact, I’ve even put a photo of myself in this post, taken by my second shooter Todd, as I felt like we were proper guests at the wedding.
Before the ceremony, me, Rachel and her dad had some time to kill in the fancy car, so we decided to pop to Rachel’s house to get photos of their fluffy cats. We got all the way to the front door, and Rachel went to open it before realising she didn’t have a key! So we made plans to pop round the corner to her dad’s to have a GnT in the garden… you can guess what happened there… wedding party members don’t carry house keys! It gave us a good laugh, anyway.
The ceremony was at Doncaster Registry Office, and they were seen off with a mountain of homemade confetti – it seemed to be never-ending, it was awesome! I felt like we were in a snow globe.
We then drove to the venue in the awesome car, and the entertainment for the day was a quiz Rachel and Giles had compiled – but there were several winners! What do you do?! Why, you have a foam-plane-flying competition of course! The runner up won a retro game console, and the winner fought them for it. It was a fun, silly, lovely day.
Also, it rained in the evening, which made me very happy.
Here’s their story…
“Giles and I met at HMV, both working there, on the 21st November 2011. It wasn’t an immediate romance; Giles was married, I was cool living the single life. Besides, there were 17 years between us and we were cracking mates. We couldn’t possibly fall in love, get married and have two beautiful fur children, right?
“When Giles became single (amicably, thankfully) we gravitated towards one another, already having been friends for the past two years. He grew a beard and I fell in love. Easy as that.
“Four and a half years after we got together, we spent Christmas Eve watching Die Hard as per usual – Christmas Eve being the one day over the holiday period we relax and just spend time together and Die Hard being the best Christmas film ever made.
“We’d finished watching Bruce kick ass and we were watching daft funny things on telly, when I told Giles I was having the best day ever. He told me to come to him for a giant hug, and he said “let’s make it better shall we?”
“At that point I felt a rustle in his jeans and I thought ‘hey, it’s Christmas, why not?’ But to my utmost surprise he pulled out an engagement ring. We spent the rest of the night dancing around the house.
“I spotted Anna’s work years ago and wanted her to photograph my wedding immediately; however, considering I was single at the time and evidently years off getting married, I didn’t get in touch.
“Some time after, a former uni housemate got married and posted pictures online which were outstanding, so I looked at who had taken them and lo and behold! Anna!
“The second I got engaged, I knew who I wanted taking our photographs, and it only took one look at her work from Giles to make him feel the same way. We are so very excited!! <3”
