Rainy woodland wedding at Wilderness Wood Sussex

Aug 29, 2024 | Weddings

I recently had the coolest experience photographing a wedding at Wilderness Wood in Hadlow Down, Sussex. Guess what? It rained the entire time! Despite the less-than-ideal weather (ok I secretly loved it), the outdoor wedding was absolutely magical. The lush greenery of the woodland setting combined with the rain created a dramatic atmosphere that was so cool for photos. It even thundered during the ceremony!

Carran and Gary, who were all about having a fun and colorful wedding, embraced the rain wholeheartedly. They had umbrellas for all the guests, and let the dress get filthy – which actually looked really cool, like an ombre effect!

It was quite funny covering my cameras from the rain though – I used giant sandwich bags to protect them. They’re shower proof but relentless rain all day would’ve destroyed them. When I got to Wilderness before the ceremony, Emily the owner greeted me and said “Oh I’m so glad it’s you shooting today!” – she knew I’d love it and bring the positive vibes!

If you’re getting married at Wilderness Wood in Hadlow Down and are worried about it raining, hopefully this wedding will make you worry a bit less!
