Retro Camcorder Wedding Films

Your wedding, like the home videos you grew up watching

Remember those family holidays filmed on camcorders? The birthday parties, the Christmas mornings, the slightly wonky zooming, the warm colours. Those videos somehow feel more real than anything filmed in perfect 4K.

That's exactly why I film weddings on my original 2008 Sony Handycam. It feels nostalgic, relaxed and genuinely fun, and it saves the moments that matter: the hugs before the ceremony, confetti in your hair, your best mate attempting dance moves, your grandparents laughing, and the moments in between that nobody planned.

Photos and film at the same time: I've got a little mount on top of my camera that holds the camcorder, so for big moments like the ceremony and the confetti, I'm filming and photographing at once. Meanwhile your guests have my second camcorder, so nothing gets missed.

Is this instead of a traditional videographer?

No, and it's not trying to be! This is a very different thing. I don't use tripods, lapel mics or any of the kit a traditional videographer brings, so you could absolutely have a videographer as well. Think of it as a retro, budget-friendly option, and something fun for your guests to get involved in too: nostalgic highlights rather than a full cinematic wedding film.

Do you still photograph the wedding?

Absolutely. If you've booked photography with me, I film alongside taking your photos, and the second camcorder in your guests' hands fills in the gaps.

How do you shoot photos and film at the same time?

I've got a little device that attaches to the top of my camera, and the camcorder clips onto that. So for the moments where I'd otherwise need to be doing two things at once, like the ceremony and the confetti, the camcorder is rolling on top of my camera while I take your photos. You get the photos and the footage of exactly the same moment, without an extra person getting in the way.

At the same time, I hand my second camcorder to a guest, so you get another angle too: their view from the crowd, everyone's reactions and all the fun bits in between. The rest of the day I switch between the two, filming snippets alongside your photos.

Do you film the whole ceremony and speeches?

If I'm doing your photos too, I film most of the ceremony and speeches, but not every second, as I'm photographing at the same time. It's all captured in true home-camcorder style (no tripod, no lapel mics). If there's a bit you really don't want to miss, ask a trusted guest to keep the second camcorder rolling on it.

Do our guests get to film too?

Yes! People act completely differently in front of a mate holding a camcorder than a pro with a proper camera, so you get unfiltered, genuinely funny footage: guests interviewing each other, messages for the two of you, behind-the-scenes moments and the dancefloor chaos I'd never catch on my own. The best bits go into your film, and the rest into your Full Camcorder Cut.
