Las Vegas Wedding // Tash + Russell

May 31, 2017 | Destination weddings, Spring weddings, Weddings, Weddings

I kept this one quiet… but I just got back from shooting a wedding in Las Vegas! Tash and Russell had planned to get married in the UK – they had a venue, a photographer (meee!), it was all coming together. Then they started looking at who to invite, the cost of feeding everyone, the dreaded table plans… Tash turned to Russell and said “this is ridiculous, let’s just elope to Vegas” as a joke, and Russell said “HELL YES YES PLEASE SCREW THIS!!!” Or something like that, I imagine. So we got on a plane to LAX, hired a car and went on a little road trip together! We took photos in San Francisco, Yosemite, Death Valley and finally the desert just outside Las Vegas, where they had an intimate ceremony with a fabulous celebrant, and just Tash’s parents (and me and Leanne the videographer) in attendance.

It turns out Las Vegas is a horrendous place that’s hot, frustrating and an assault on all the senses. I loved my first night there because it was new and exciting and because I discovered Hot n Juicy Crawfish (a restaurant where you’re given a bag of shellfish and no cutlery or plates). But after that it was just smoky casinos, expensive hotels that won’t let you leave (you have to walk through the smoky casino to get anywhere near daylight) and $9 beers (that’s a half pint too!).

The neon lights were pretty cool though, as was driving down the Strip looking at all the hotels. And happily, the wedding was taking place half an hour away from the bright lights, on a dry lake bed surrounded by mountains, at sunset.

There are loads more photos from my America road trip to share, as well as photos of Tash and Russell in Yosemite, San Francisco and Death Valley, but for now here’s a sneak peek at Tash and Russell’s Las Vegas elopement!
